Chicken Parmesan is one of my go to choices when I go out to eat. However, I can’t always go out to eat when I am craving chicken Parmesan. This Instant Pot Chicken Parmesan is just what I need when I’m craving a little Italian.
I’m such a creature of habit when it comes to ordering at restaurants. I tend to always get the same thing. Mexican food places I get the cheese enchiladas. Chinese food take-out I get chicken lo mein. Italian food places? Chicken Parmesan all the way!
What is Chicken Parmesan?
Chicken Parmesan is a dish that consists of deliciously breaded chicken breast engulfed in tomato sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, or provolone cheese. For this recipe, it will be Parmesan, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. If you want to get creative, you can add some bacon or ham as well.
Instant Pot Chicken Parmesan Ingredients
You will need a few essential ingredients to make this chicken creamy and delicious.
Chicken breasts. This recipe works best with boneless, skinless chicken breasts. You can use boneless thighs in a pinch, but breasts give the best results.
Nature’s Seasoning. Morton’s Natures Seasoning is a mix of onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and other natural spices that help to bring out the flavor of your foods without overpowering them. If you don’t have it, you can use salt and pepper instead.
Mozzarella cheese. You can’t have Parmesan chicken without it. Make sure you get shredded so it can melt on top of your deliciously tender chicken breasts.
Parmesan cheese. It isn’t quite Parmesan without Parmesan cheese. I like to add a little more than the recipe calls for. Use what you want.

How to Make Instant Pot Chicken Parmesan
This recipe is super easy to make in your Instant Pot! You need about 10-minutes to prep and about 15-minutes of cooking time. Dinner should be on the table in 30-minutes!
Step 1 Sauté
Turn your instant pot onto sauté mode. Once hot, pour in your vegetable oil. Add the chicken breasts to your pot. You don’t want to leave them in too long, you are just lightly sautéing them until they cook on the outside. Once slightly cooked on each side, remove and set aside.
Step 2 Add Sauce and Seasoning
Add to your pot your tomato sauce, garlic, and fresh basil. Then, add your chicken breasts back to the pot and nestle them into the sauce.
Step 3 Pressure Cook
Put your valve to sealing. Push the manual or pressure cook button, and then, use your plus and minus buttons to set for 10 minutes.
Step 4 Release the Pressure
Once that time is done, manually release by releasing the valve (doing a natural release for 10-minutes will make your chicken more tender).
Step 5 Add the Cheesey Goodness
On top of each chicken breast, place your mozzarella cheese, followed by the Parmesan cheese, followed by the remaining basil. Put the lid back on your instant pot continuing to keep it on warm setting and allow the cheese to melt for about 5 to 7 minutes.
Step 6 Enjoy
Transfer to a plate and enjoy! You can enjoy this dish on top of pasta noodles or keep it low carb with some vegetables or salad!

How to Store Leftover Instant Pot Chicken Parmesan
Once your Instant Pot chicken Parmesan is fully cooked, you can store it in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. In my house, we don’t keep many leftovers because it typically gets devoured the night I make it. Be sure to keep it in a bowl with a lid.
Can I Freeze It?
I would not recommend freezing the fully finished chicken Parmesan. It will become soggy when reheating. Instead, you can cook the chicken without the sauce and cheese by the directions. Let the chicken cool to room temperature, and then transfer it to the freezer. Place your chicken in a ziplock freezer bag. You can keep the chicken in the freezer for several months.
When you are ready to eat your chicken Parmesan, pop it into an oven safe dish. Cook it from frozen for 1-2 hours. When it is heated up, add sauce and cheese and place it back into the oven until the cheese melts.
