What Is Pork Tenderloin?

Pork Tenderloin is a more extended, thinner cut of pork meat. It comes from the back section of the loin and is also commonly referred to as a pork filet. It is slightly different from pork loin because pork loin is often thicker and shorter. Unlike pork loin, the pork tenderloin does not have a bone in it.

Pork Tenderloin in the Instant Pot Ingredients

Making the Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin is easy when you have the right ingredients to use. You will need:

  • Pork Tenderloin. You cannot make this dish unless you have the right meat to use! The pork tenderloin is the perfect cut of meat because it is boneless and tender.
  • Minced Garlic. Adding garlic to the dish brings out more flavor to make it taste even better.
  • Chicken Broth. Using chicken broth with your pork tenderloin is the perfect way to keep it soft and tender instead of dry.
  • Honey. The honey gives this pork tenderloin a slightly sweet taste and contrasts with the garlic perfectly.

Besides these ingredients, you will also need extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper, oregano, garlic powder, dried thyme, dried rosemary, cornstarch, and yellow onion.

Exact Ingredients

Here is a list of the exact ingredients you will need:

  • 1-1¼ lbs. pork tenderloin
  • Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 3 T. extra virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 2-3 large cloves garlic, minced

How to Make Pork Tenderloin in the Instant Pot

If you would like to make the Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin, follow these easy steps to complete the recipe:

Step 1: Prep the Meat

Cut the pork tenderloin into 2 or 3 sections and generously season with salt and black pepper.

Step 2: Start Searing the Meat

Select the “Sauté” function and set to the highest setting. Add two tablespoons olive oil and the pieces of pork tenderloin and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until nicely browned. Transfer pork from Instant Pot® to a plate and set aside.

Step 3: Sauté Onion and Garlic

Add the remaining olive oil, onion, and garlic. Add garlic powder, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste, and stir to combine. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion is soft and develops some color, approximately 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Mix Liquid

Add the balsamic vinegar and deglaze the pot by scraping the bottom with a spatula to release any browned bits. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the liquid is slightly reduced and the sharp acidic smell dissipates.

Step 5: Pressure Cook

Add the broth and honey and stir to combine as well as the tenderloin back to the pot. Lock the lid into place and flip the pressure valve to “Sealing.” Set the “Manual” setting to “High” for 3 minutes.

Step 6: Natural Release Then Quick Release

When the cook time is complete, allow pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then do a quick release for any remaining pressure. Once the pin drops and no additional steam comes out, carefully remove the lid and transfer the pork to a serving platter.

Step 7: Thicken the Sauce

Add the cornstarch and an equal amount of hot liquid from the Instant Pot® to a small bowl and stir until thoroughly combined. Slow stir the slurry into the sauce a little at a time until thickened, approximately 1-2 minutes.

Step 8: Serve

To serve, slice the pork and pour some of the balsamic sauce on top. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves, if using, and offer the remaining sauce on the side. Enjoy!
