Instant Pot Ramen Noodles

I have spent a lot of time looking for the perfect Ramen noodle. I have gone through many different brands and Asian inspired noodles to try and find one that most closely resembles the Ramen from the little baggy.

After many attempts at finding the right noodles, I gave up and just started to use the noodles from the bag minus the seasoning packet. This actually works great because they are inexpensive and the exact consistency that I want. Then I found out that I could make Ramen noodles in my Instant Pot! Total game changer.

This recipe is a true one pot meal that combines fresh chicken, vegetables and a special sauce with Ramen noodles. I remove the seasoning packet in order to get the perfect flavor that my whole family loves. This recipe is not a traditional Ramen with extra broth like a soup. This is more like a lo mein with Ramen noodles and chicken. A gourmet Ramen, if you will.

How Do you Hack Instant Ramen?

Ramen noodles in and of itself is not a very fancy dish. You can open a package, add some water, and toss it in the microwave for a quick snack or lunch. But, if you really want to hack the goodness of Ramen, you have to add in some secret ingredients!

What to Add to Instant Ramen?

When I wanted to make grommet Ramen, I knew that the noodles and broth had almost zero nutritional value, so I wanted to add in something nutritional that my kids would actually eat.

Chicken: So, first, I added chicken. Chicken is full of protein and as long as it is shredded up, the kids will eat it.

Vegetables: Next, you want to sneak in some veggies that you can’t get anyone to eat. For this recipe, I threw in some peas and carrots. If you don’t think your kiddos will eat the peas, you can substitute corn instead.

Finally, I added a little more seasoning to give it a burst of flavor my kids couldn’t complain about. And, that’s how you hack Instant Ramen.

You can add your own fixings like hard boiled eggs, sea weed, bamboo shoots or sesame seeds. This recipe is very versatile and easily customizable.

Instant Pot Ramen Noodles Ingredients

For your gourmet style Ramen noodles, you are going to need a few more ingredients that just a few packages of Ramen. Here’s what you need:

  • 1 pound chicken, diced
  • 1 tea garlic powder
  • 1/2 tea salt
  • 1 tea onion powder
  • 1 tea ground ginger
  • 1/2 tea pepper
  • 2 table olive oil
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 3 packages of Ramen noodles
  • 1 cup frozen pea and carrot mix
  • 1/2 cup baby corn
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha sauce
  • chives for topping

Chicken – You can use breasts of thighs for this hacked Ramen noodles recipe.

Spices – I use garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger and salt and pepper to season the chicken. It gives it a great flavor that is not overpowering.

Ramen – You only want the noodles from the packets you buy from the store. Discard the seasoning, which is full of unwanted additives anyways.

Chicken broth – I suggest low sodium chicken broth for this recipe since there is a good amount of salt in this recipe. You can always add salt but you can’t take it out.

Vegetables – I went fairly simple and used peas, carrots and baby corn. Feel free to add your own favorite vegetable in there! Bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, or even bell pepper make great additions.

Ramen sauce – To make a quick Ramen sauce you will need soy sauce (go for low sodium), brown sugar and sriracha sauce. This gives these hacked Ramen noodles a great flavor that is not super spicy. You can totally up the spice by adding more sriracha that suggested.

How to Make Instant Pot Ramen Noodles

Ramen isn’t very challenging on it’s own, but when you make these gourmet Ramen noodles, you have a few extra steps. The great thing is that it is made in your Instant and ready in under 30 minutes!

Step 1 Sauté the Chicken

First, turn on your sauté setting on. Add the oil to the pot. Then, add the spices to the chicken. Sauté the chicken for 5 minutes on each side.

Step 2 Deglaze the Pot

Turn off the sauté function. Pour 1 cup of chicken broth into the pot and scrape off any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.

Step 3 Cook the Chicken

Put your lid on the Instant Pot, turn the valve to sealing. Then, set your cooker to manual pressure for 5-minutes. Then, do a quick release.

Step 4 Cook the Ramen

Remove the lid from your Instant Pot and turn the saute back on. Add the other 2 cups of broth and the Ramen noodles. Break apart the noodles and push them under the liquid to allow them to soften in the broth. Your water should boil after a few minutes and the noodles will become soft and easier to work with.

Once the noodles are soft, add the peas and carrots. They should heat through fairly quickly.

peas and carrots

Add in the soy sauce, sriracha, and brown sugar. Stir to combine. Allow to simmer until sauce has thickened. Make sure to stir constantly so that your noodles don’t stick to the bottom of the inner pot.

Stir together

Finally, serve in bowls and garnish with chives. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.

How to Store Leftovers

Store leftovers in an air tight container in your fridge. When you go to reheat, add a little bit of liquid to unstick the noodles and add a bit of moisture back. I do not suggest freezing these noodles because they won’t hold up to freezing and re-heating.
