Oh man. This egg roll in a bowl is hands down one of my favorite dishes. It has so much flavor and is so easy to make. You won’t even miss the wonton wrapper. (But you can totally add wonton strips if you’d like!)

What is an Egg Roll in a Bowl?

Egg rolls are typically wrapped in a tortilla like wrapper served with a main dish. These wraps were traditionally made with egg wraps. Today, egg rolls are made with a type of flour wrap that is dipped in eggs for flavor. This egg roll in a bowl recipe takes out the carb wrap. Instead, you get all the inside goodies of the egg roll without the extra carbs.

Ground chicken – You can really use any ground meat here. Ground chicken or ground pork keep it light, but ground beef can be used as well. Whatever you prefer or have on hand!

Coleslaw mix – Did I mention this recipe is super easy? It is! Make it even easier with a pre-shredded bag of coleslaw! Just dump it right in.

Want to use fresh cabbage? You can do that too! I like to grab a green and purple cabbage when I use fresh. It gives it a pop of color and a bit of variety. Be sure to grab a carrot to shred to add to the mix too.

Sauce – You need soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and toasted sesame oil to make the “sauce” that goes with this egg roll in a bowl. You can find all of these in the Asian food aisle at your local grocery store.

Broth – Bone broth gives this dish a great depth of flavor, but any broth will work. Beef, chicken or even vegetable will work here.

Spices – You will need garlic, ginger along with salt and pepper. Feel free to adjust the spices to your tastes as well!

Why Do I Set it to Zero Minutes?

It may seem like setting your Instant Pot for zero minutes means your food will not be cooked! When I first started using my pot, I thought zero minutes was kind of pointless. But, the food will be done. However, what I learned is that while the Instant Pot is coming to pressure, it is actually cooking the food.

For meals and recipes that call for zero minutes, the amount of time it takes your Instant Pot to come to pressure is all the food needs to cook. So, don’t worry that it says zero minutes. Trust me, your food is going to be done.
